“I was catching your normal small shore fish @7a.m. myrtle beach when my rod bent and my reel started screaming. He almost lined me twice. I only had 15lb line tied to a normal shore rig, but my knots held strong. He moved me a good distance down shore and as I moved more people started following wanting to see what I caught. I was hoping for a large redfish never thinking I would have been able to keep a shark on this long. But about a half hour later I got him on shore. I was a celeb for a few mins while everyone took pics. It was one of the greatest fishing experiences I have ever had.”
Matt: Where did you get your gear – that looked like you had light tackle.
“My parents live in a retired community with some lakes and I fish them a lot. This old guy just gave me all his old fishing gear. This rod is so old school I love it. It has a good reel with this cool screw together rod system. It was cracked so I used some fly thread and epoxy to fix it. But the old girl held together and the fight was epic.”
