Ford F150 meets Stratos Bass Boat

Ford F150 & Stratos Boat

Finally the day of of 2014 bass boat season started yesterday  morning on the Ohio River at 7am.  I set my alarm clock for 5AM and after two cups of coffee, wiggling my boat out of my garage and triple checking I had everything for the first voyage of the year… I was ready!!

Pulling my boat up 79N to the KillBuck boat ramp in Groveton I noticed I was getting 17 miles to the gallon pulling the boat.  Last year I had my 2007 Chevy Silverado (RIP) and my new Ford pulls the boat much better.

The ramp had a few boats that were already out on the river but I had the ramp to myself to tinker with my motor for  bit. I figured after sitting in the garage this past could winter I would have issues getting it rolling for the first time.

Fishing was extremely slow and I think it was due to murky water on the Ohio. My goal was to get the boat kinks out and not worry so much about the fish.  My first stop was the mouth of Montour Creek in the back Channel of Nevile Island. I had one bite there on a WeeCraw which was a nice size Freshwater Drum.

I moved around all through the Neville Channel up and down working boat docks, rock ledges and the rocky point up by the dam with not one single action. I through enormous crank baits and jigging patterns but nothing was working. I called it a morning at 11am and went back to my parents to working on the boat. I shampooed the deck and gave the boat a good scrub down. I was excited to shampoo the carpets because they were building up alot of dirt. I dont think they were ever cleaned.

Next trip will hopefully be up to East Brady or Shenango Lake.
