OBX 3.0 Day 1

Arrival

Hello everyone! Finally made it to the southern shores after long travel down. We left Pittsburgh arond 1:00am Saturday morning and didn’t arrive in Nagshead to 11:30AM.  I was hoping to do the drive in around 10hours total but the trip down was full of some traffic and other unplanned stops. My family members from Maryland took close to 7 hours which should have taken 4. We made safe though! After helping unpack truck loads of house stuff I was able to dig in and get my fishing stuff organized to fish this morning.

Morning Fishing Day 1

After only getting 4 hours of sleep in two days I stll managed to peel myself out of bed and head south to Hatteras. Arriving at Red Drum Tackle around 6:30AM, I geared up on Bait, Ice and some tackle I needed for the day. Lines in the water by 7:30AM with fresh bunker and mullet. 3 bottom fishing rigs, then 4 grub, sting silver and flounder fishing rods rigged and ready. We waited waited and waited with no bites. I noticed that no one around us were catching anything. I checked the bottom rig rods a few times and they came back with empty hooks which became frustating. Small fish or crabs were having a filed day with our rigs. One time I went to check a rod and a start reeling my bait in and I snagged up on a big fish or skate. There was little to no head shake and he about spolled me. I managed to turn whatever it was once but it then took a long hard run and snapped my line. Bummer! After that heart beat racer fishing went back to the dead sea. Trent and I had steady action of flounder and pompno in the surf but none were keepers. Just kept us busy for alittle bit.

Evening Fishing Day 1

John and I took the boat out in the evening out of Oregon Inlet to do some exploring down the coast.  We went about 4 miles out off the coast to do some trolling and jigging. We didnt makr much of anything so we went back in to catch some flounder around the inlet. We caught a few small ones but the tides were messed up. Recon trip… need to explore on the boat more.

Tomorrow I am going to ask around at the  bait shops to find out where we need to go for the boat. Danielle and I plan on getting up early and heading back to Hatteras. One thing I didnt mention above but the main reason fishing sucked in the morning; there was commerical fishermen boats all up and down the coast. They were dragging nets up and down messing the fishing up for everyone.

Time for bed, running on 4 hours of sleep, 20+  BudLights and a big dinner.

So long until tomorrow!
