We were on the water bright and early thinking I had the slight advantage to smallmouth for this trip. I was wrong….
One hookup on the rock pile right after the launch on a minnow but nothing of any size. Fishing was slow all morning until I headed down river to Redbank Creek where the smallies were on a good bite. I was hoping with the full moon today it was going to be non stop but I had to really work for them.
Once we got up into Redbank the fishing got steady and as the fog lifted more fish came around. Normally this would be the exact opposite but as it got sunnier and hotter the fishing got better.
Over all it was a great day of fishing and I caught some nice ones and lost a few good ones. Smallies were hitting on soft plastic grub pattern. I threw, minnows, crank baits, wee-craw and worm patterns but only a few fish boated with those. They seemed to be down deep with jigs. Justin landed most of his on a blue fox minnow. He was slaying the rock bass for the better part of the afternoon.
Happy Birthday Justin – it was a great trip!
Special thanks to Steiner’s Outdoors & More in East Brady. We stopped in for bait and tackle on the way. Always have to give them a shout.
