Trout season is here and as fishermen pack their bags and prep the opening day gear, we would like you to leave the stringer at home. The highly debated topic of keep fish or throw it back is one here at RF that is special to me and my co-fishermen. Stocked trout can be viewed in two ways: 1) They put, I take 2) Catch, release to catch another day. #2 would be the best option for those wanting to keep the fishing season well into May or longer.
I do not judge those who like to keep a fish for dinner but I do ask you keep those stringer light. If a fish is not going to continue to live after a great fight it makes sense to take it and eat. Keep a few things in mind out of respect and just good fishing faith. Pack a cooler with ice to keep the fish fresh & get them on that ice ASAP. I hate to see anglers dragging their catches through the mud or woods on a stringer. Make sure you do your research on how to clean fish properly and don’t waster fillets.
